Children

The Children’s Ministry strives to teach children the basics of the Christian faith and ultimately lead them to the point that they can answer God’s call to follow Him and accept His free gift of salvation. We teach children that God loves them; how they should love and serve God; and how they should love others.

Stuff We Do Every Week

Sunday School/Connection Groups – Sundays 9:45 – 10:45 am

We have two children’s classes that meet every Sunday. For 1st – 3rd graders we have FM123. In this class they learn Bible basics, Bible stories, and scriptures through a variety of methods. They hear the Word taught, play games, and participate in creative activities. For 4th- 6th graders we have RT456. In this class the children dig deeper into the scripture and learn how to apply the principles to their lives. They also learn thru a variety of activities.

Trek252 – Sundays 10:50 am – 12:00 noon

Trek 252 is a time of worship designed especially for children in kindergarten thru 5th grade. The children begin in small groups where they participate in activities that prepare them for the worship time to follow. One of the small group choices is a children’s Praise Team. Children in this group learn songs that they will led when the whole group joins together. During the worship segment learn a Bible truth that is reinforced thru skits, music, and a Bible teaching time. Following worship, the children return to small groups to do activities that reinforce what they have learned.

KFC (Kids For Christ) – Wednesdays 6:30 – 7:30 pm

We offer different types of Bible learning activities and studies throughout the year. Each study contains a variety of fun activities. This class is for children in grades 1-6.

Stuff We Do Every Year

Annual Easter Egg Hunt – Saturday before Easter

Every year on the Saturday before Easter, all of the children in our community are invited to take part in an Easter Egg hunt on our MLK property. There are thousands of candy-filled eggs, special prize eggs, snacks, and inflatables. A special gospel presentation is presented each year in a variety of ways.

CentriKid Camp – Every summer in July

CentriKid Camp is for those children that have completed 5th and 6th grade in the previous school year. We attend a camp at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. The week is filled with Bible Study, special classes of their choice, recreation and a special event called OMC (Organized Mass Chaos). The kids meet children from all over the country.

Vacation Bible School / Upward Basketball and Cheerleading Camp – Every summer

During the summer we offer either Vacation Bible School or Upward Camp. During this week Biblical principles are taught thru theme oriented Bible School or thru the sports programs of Upward Basketball. The children experience a fun week of learning Bible stories and lessons thru exciting activities.

Upward Basketball – Every year in January and February

Upward Basketball is a sports league for boys and girls in kindergarten thru 6th grade. It is open to all children in our community. Signups begin in September with evaluations in November. Team assignments are made after Thanksgiving and practices begin in December with the first game in January. The season ends with an Awards Ceremony where every player receives a special end of year prize and a certificate. The cost of the program includes a t-shirt, jersey, shorts, and other items. The program teaches basketball skills while also teaching teamwork and good sportsmanship. Each child is guaranteed to play an equal amount of time in every game.
